I got everything together. She was all tuned and ready to go. Stop by the gas station put in 36 gallons of fresh .... $125 shhhhh....

Drop her in and she starts right away and runs. BAck off the trailer leave the inlet and run up to 3k rpms... runs great for 30 mins. Temp never goes over 150, oil pressure at 50lbs things are good.

THEN a little surge, then a bigger surge, then a stumble. I back her down, surge stumble, surge stumble. I give it gas and hear a pop from the carb. I shut it down. Grab my timing light, set it in base timing mode. DEAD on 8 btdc. It gets check spark with the light all cyl are good.
Stumble gets worse, progessively worse. I called sea tow and was towed in for the first time in five years of boating. I am guess the carb is full of garbage. Now it starts like normal and stumbles to idle, but when shifting it stalls. I have three q's

1. A fuel water seperator acts as a filter too? SO I should not need another filter?

2. If i have on how did the crap get in the carb?

3. Would a bad power valve cause any of this?

Sounds just like what mine did last year. And it was my first ride of the year. Ran great the previous year. The longer I ran it the worse it got. It started about 30 min into the ride. The first thing I went for was the fuel, filters, then took off the top of the carb, anti siphon valve, tank vent. Totally checked out the ignition side and it turned out to be the coil. It has happened before. HTH

WATER in the gas. I got the carb off and the gas was half clear half not. now what. The tank was empty as i pumped out all the old stuff with an electric fuel pump. I put in 35 gallons of fresh. Maybe dry gas or something ...

What about the filter? Did you pull it off an empty it and see if there is water in it too?

When you cleaned the tank, is it possible the filter and carb already had water in them?

Did you install a new filter and clean the carb after you cleaned the tank, or was all that water still in the filter and carb after you cleaned the tank.

that is the content of the filter and the filter. I do not endore or oppose walmart. What should I know there could not be one or two gallons in the tank as I flushed it out. so also it could it have been the stuff in the lines as I did not flush them... Can i filter it? MY next plan is to draw a couple of gallons out and see what it looks like.

Well, either the gas you put in had water in it, or if the tank has been sitting empty for a while it got water in it. Cause you have a lot of water now.

Was the front of the gas tank higher than the back of the tank when you emptied it? If not, all the water would go forward. Then when you put it in the water and take off, the bow is high, and the water heads to the back of the tank.

Water always sinks to the bottom, just raise the bow up higher than the stern and using your pump you cleaned it with before, suck the water off the bottom.

Now blow out all the lines, pump some gas through the fuel pump to clean it out, new filter, clean the carb (Yes, you need new gaskets) put it all back together and I would bet it runs much better.
Then, every time you change the filter, pour it into a clear container and check it for water. A tablespoon full or less is normal. If more, time to clean the tank again.
With that much water, you might want to look at the cap oring and see what shape it's in.

Gas cap. Most screw in gas caps have orings on them.
