I just got a 1969 14ft glasspar, with 1968 mercury 50 on it... Few questions for ya.

A) I dont space in garage, so i'm going to go buy it a "out door portable garage canopy deal" Should this be enuf to keep the boat from distroying itself, during Oregons 4-5 months of rain ? Is fiberglass any more sensitive to the elements then other boats ?

B) Should i take the motor off during the winter, and store it inside my garage, or are motors fine to be left outside, as long as the are covered from the rain.

C) We currently have 4 in of snow, which rarely happens in Oregon, the boat has been tarped until i get time to build its new outdoor garage, is super cold weather bad for boat/motor, if so, what steps could i take to keep it from damaging itself.

D) anything else i should know about storing a boat for the winter, i've been reading alot about winterization, and plan on doing it soon, but anything else that is good measure to keep a boat in as good as condition as one could under the circumstances.

Prop the bow up high as you can get it, pull the plug. Outboard eng. should be fine outside. Not much you can do other than keeping it out of the rain and snow, keep the critters out.

Portable garage canopy is a great thing I have one made by cover it and it keeps the boat very dry and warm you can work on it when it is cold outside:)

If you have or are expecting freezing temps, you may want to drain and refill the lower unit lube incase there is water in it (due to bad seals or drain/vent screw o-rings). If there is water in the LU and it freezes, it could crack the housing. This would be a normal part of OB winterization.

Did you read the stickies on winter storage, excellent info for beginners, things like opening all hatch covers ski lockers ect. doubt you have any in that small a boat, but basic things like removing battery bring it indoors, wheather or not to drain the float bowl, it's all available just need to start reading, the worst thing you can do is put a cover over a wet boat, let it dry out completely.

I got the Boat, took it home, had it inspected, they found the lower was bad... so i took it back to him, let him try to sell it for another week, then lowered the price, and he bit... Got it for 600 bucks... Found a new lower for around 200, so i'm stoked !!! I've got the boat tarp'd for now... The Canopy i pick up tomorrow and am going to build it on the side of my house... I can Defiantly tell the lower is officially bad... it was freezing temps for the last few days, and he didn't drain the bottom, and grease is flowing from the crack !!! No worries tho, new one will be in the mail this week...

Also, wtf is

Boat is facing front down (because i can't flip it around on my hill, and pull it up the small iced hill in my driveway, i had to back it in, and burn out just to get it where it is, so its gonna have to sit hull forward downhill until the weather permits me to move it (probably tomorrow).

Thanks again for everyone's help and input, so nice to have answers from knowledgeable people w/out having to keep calling my local marinas =)

(picts for tho's who didn't see other thread)
