Living 2 mi. from a lake I figured it was time to get a boat...picked up a 1992 Bayliner classic with a 3.0l mercruiser . Boat appears to be in immaculate condition and the motor was reported to be rebuilt about 25 hrs ago. ( the poor fella that sold it was still out in the road a 1/4 mile away watching his boat leave). Anyway he didn't have service manuals for it so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction for obtaining some. Also if anyone has any advice for a pre-outing check list or should I just get it in the water and slam it and see how she handles.

Exactly what the PO of my new to me boat did, I felt bad taking it...well, almost!

Congrats on your new purchase, these people here are great!

Re: 1'st time boat owner

I think I just Googled my boat/year and found a link to the manual. Or just go to the mfgr website and hunt around for a PDF of the manual.

As for a checklist, I compiled my own homemade checklist from all the various things I'd read, printed it out on bright colored paper, and then had it laminated. I now store it in the glove compartment and take it out when we're preparing to head out. My kids laugh at me but after a hard day of work I have too many other things on my mind and I don't want to forget something simple that could turn into a disaster. Send me a private message if you'd like me to send you the document I created; it's one page.

Check list for a new boat owner is a great idea. The first thing on that list should be, Did I put the plug in?

As far as the rest of your questions, for checklists and other things you might need, I'm going to move this over to the Boat Topics and Questions forum.
