Hello everyone, before you ask yes I did see the video on the sticky. I had a mechanic adjust my motor since I had a very high idle and I found out he was messing with the timing and now the whole thing is off. So I am adjusting the cam the carb and the timing all in one.

Lookjng fir advise i should adjust adjust the carbs and can first then timing i am assuming?

And for the timing I bought a gun, ground all the spark boots, unscrew the spark plugs, jump the rocker switch and do i adjust for idle or WOT? Just trying to make sure I do it right please.

also if anyone has any recommendations for adjusting the cam and linkage tower and all that You would save my summer!

Carbs can be adjusted before and then after the timings done.
So can the roller cam.

Set the carbs at 1 1/4 turn out then adjust after the timing's done.

The throttle needs to be all the way in gear and full throttle.

You can use a jump box and use the lugs on the solenoid to turn the motor over.

This is a stupid question but I want to make sure I am doing this right. for the timing. I set it for WOT, I disconnect the throttle linkage, push the timing tower to WOT, remove all the spark plugs and ground the wires, and jump the rocker switch.

then with someone turning the key I use the timing gun to adjust that? With just the starter spinning the fly wheel at WOT disconnected and thats what I will use to measure?

Yes, that is the right way to set the timing by static.
There is a thread at top of this forum by Frank Acampora how to set the timing and sync the carbs.

It is a video at Youtube also, by Frank where he shows how to link and sync the timing and carbs.

No keep the throttle hooked up and push it as far forward as it goes.
Remove the plugs, ground the plug wires.
I made a 3 wire (#10 wire) thing that I ground out to the block.
All 3 wires into 1 brass battery connector.
Then timing light on top plug.
Front of the motor on top of the carb in front of the flywheel is the timing mark.
See Franks video for the rest

So with the idle mix screw, just screw it all the way clockwise on both, and then start at 1 and 1/4 counter clockwise to get a baseline. Then with it idling, thats when I find the middle of too rich and too lean, moving them both one after another so they are the same I am assuming?

okay, so I got the timing to 28 degrees cranking, adjusted the cam, got both carbs aligned, and WOT had them both parallel... But I cant get her to crank over.

I pulled the throttle out of gear and had it half way to WOT and she started beautifully. So now just have to figure out how to get it in neutral to what it is half pulled out. It looks like if the cam is pushing on the eccentric screw thats what gets the motor to start. But if anyone can give me any tips I would really appreciate it

Shift from F to R then to N
Check the neutral safety switch.
The rocker is adjustable and needs to be moved to depress the white button.

So update, I was able to get it started but I was having a difficult time getitng it to stay... TURNS OUT I AM MISSING THE FUEL/AIR MIXTURE ADJUSTMENT SCREW on the top carb!!!! thanks to the previous owner.

with fooling around with this, I managed to mess up the linkage and now she wont go to throttle.

So any advice where this white button is to depress?

And does anyone have a good resource on fixing the F,N,R throttle cables?

UNhook the cables.
Shift the handle into N

Then shift the motor to F N R then back to N while turning the prop.
You MUST turn the prop or you can bind the linkage.
Then align the connectors so they fit over the connectors.
The throttle needs a little tension when slipping over the connector.

Hey JerryJerry05 the boat is in the water so I can hop in and turn the prop, but do you have any visuals for me to see where on the motor I am making it go into F N and R please? I tried searching on the forums and online and I dont see where I am doing it, to make sure I am doing it correctly.
