My bot is a 1988 Bayliner Capir 1750. I have had the boat for a few months and it has ran perfect. Unfortunately on my last trip out, the motor began to sputter when at high speed. Upon slowing down it would sputter out and stall repeatedly. I tried runnning it out of water with the flushette hooked up and it had the same problem. Anyone have any idea what would cause this and a possible solution to my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

Fuel issue or electical? We don't have much to go on here. Is it worse, once warmed up? If not, I would be looking at fuel starvation and/or contamination.

Sound like an electrical issue like ignition most likey. You will need to do some first level diagnostics though. first think is to test for fuel and presence of water. Sounds like you might have water in your system also. If you can't do the basics you should get it looked at by someone that understands motors. Meesing with the fuel could be dangerous.

We ran a full day without any problems. It was on the ride back to shore thatthe problems began to occur. I waited a week and ran it on land with the flushette and the same problem persisted. Is there a way for me to test myself if there is water n the fuel line? <br />I talked to one other person and he thought it might be a carburation issue.

if you just purchased the boat there are a few things you should do due to not knowing how well the last owner maintaind the boat.first off start with the easy stuff. replace your fuel filter. replace your points. while your working on the points check your dist. cap and rotor. they probably need to be replaced too. put the fuel additive HEAT into the tank. that will help with any water in the tank. check for proper adjustment of the ESA. The ESA makes the ignition system misfire while shifting to lighten the load on the gearset. you may need to purchase a reapir manual to assist you in this procedure. try these things first. they can be done in your driveway in an afternoon. after that you may be better off taking it to a repair shop.
