is there a thermostat in the outdrive, it seems as if exhaust is coming from bellows when it is actually coming from lower front section of lower unit. a small amt of cool water comes out of prop.
please help
that's normal. there is no stat in that outdrive. however, if it's running hot at high rpm's it sounds like a bad impeller. if u don't know to get at it, post again. it's a relatively easy fix, on omc's.
i checked impeller and housing look good, have been told i may need manifold and riser but dont want to spend that much on a guess. i thought there may be some other obstruction. would like to check/change engine water pump but cant get pulley off of pump
wish me luck
merf
what year is it? i would pull manifold/riser &check ror rust buildup/ clogged passages. u can also have em pressure tested. if they fail u run the risk of ruining engine, by getting water in oil/hydro lock. pay now or pay a lot more later.
Pull the thermostat housing, there is a hole in the housing app 3/8 inch dia that allows water to enter or exit block. I forget which engine the Ford or GM. The hole fills with rust and water will not circulate thru the block.
Had a similar problem last summer the manifolds and risers were pretty well clogged. A local radiator shop cleaned them in their acid tank for a couple days. Took them home and cleaned them a little better with a wire coat hanger and a screwdriver and they were fine. The shop charged $40.00 I think.
