Water wasnt pumping through my Evinrude 2.3 (1995, Model HE2RETA, Serial H9290519)<br />how much bigger than the housing should the impeller diameter be? I just opened mine and the rubber blades are bent a considerable amount ...not sure if i should replace with the same size or slightly smaller. No indication in the manual as to the replacement impeller part number for this motor. Also ...trying to figure out if there is a blockage in the water routing...blowing down the outlet pipe seems to let air through ... but takes a considerable pressure...should this be easy to blow through...?

The impeller blaes are bigger than the housing and are rotated in as you install them. They take a set eventually and dont push against the sides of the housing with enough preasure to do an adaquate job of cooling. When they are new the vains stick straight out.

Joe, By all means, replace with the right impeller based on the parts list, don't try to downsize it with something else based on size. If the blades have taken a 'set', it's time to replace it. Others here can post the parts number or your local parts dealer can supply what you need. Cooling passages that can pass air, won't necessarily pass water.
