Ok, 1985 90 HP inline 6

So there I was, pulling a tube around the lake. I stop and switch riders. Upon restarting, I have NO GUTS. I went from the standard 5200 rpm and 45+ MPH to 5 mph and 1100 rpm. A lot of diagnostics and I found that 2, 4 & 6 were not firing. If I jump them from trigger to neg, I can get one of the three to fire but the other two still wont bang. Trigger was just replaced and the stator had a frey that was repaired. I have a switch box on the way but, before I install this thing, does it sound like I'm on the right track or am I missing something? I really want to have this puppy running again by Aug 1.

Check the stator voltages at the switchboxes with a DVA. If good, the switchbox is bad. If bad, the stator is bad. If you have a lot of money, just throw parts at it.

hope it helps

I don't have a DVA, unfortunately, but I was hoping that someone could confirm that a bad stator should affect all cylinders the same but that a bad switch box would cause it to be a selective issue.

The stator has 2 sets of charge coils, one for each switchbox. Either a stator or a switchbox can take out a complete bank and leave the other firing normally.

At least do some ohmmeter testing on the stator.

hope it helps

Disconnect the Bias (White wire) and retest for spark. If it now sparks then replace the OTHER box as it has the bad Bias.

Make the bad bias box and save it for someone with a 3 cyl, it will work fine there.
