2.5 to 3.0

I have a 1978 Imperial 16ft fiberglass boat which had a 2.5L 120hp mercruiser in it, my question is if I replace it say with a 1980's 3.0 will I have any problems if the 3.0 is a complete drop in motor?? thanks

straightforward swap - if anything is different, for example carb linkage, just steal off the 2.5

I am looking at two motors, a nice 2.5 and a nice 3.0. The 3.0 is another 100 bucks. My question is, is it worth the extra hundred bucks for the 3.0 if the engines are in equal shape from a hp point or will I really not feel a differnce? The 2.5 has a about 100 less hours on it. thanks, birdy

I was going to say to you, if you are doing this for the extra HP when your 2.5 is OK, Hmmmmmmmmmmm

But since you are looking at a new install with either engine, then I would definetely dish out the extra 100 bucks for the 3.0.
