Re: 2 batteries necessary?

The main problem people are facing today is:
I run into on surveys is dead or severely depleted batteries. The usual reason why boat batteries are dead is due to having the wrong type, size or quality to meet the vessel's demands. Truly good batteries are expensive and there are few boat builders that provide good batteries with new vessels; usually the quality is minimal, the amount of power inadequate, and the type ill-suited.

Re: 2 batteries necessary?

As weird as this might sound I had a Personal Water Craft fishing set up. It had a large cooler on a rear rack and a depth/fish finder up on the handle bars. I ran a small deep cycle battery for the depth finder and a regular PWC battery for starting. The PWC was a 3 cylinder 3 carb 1200 motor. It loaded up on fuel/oil once and wouldnt start when I was out on a river fishing. Well the starting battery went dead after many tries at starting it. So here I am on a river on a PWC that wont start. Its the middle of the week so there was no traffic on this river. After sitting there cursing my dead battery I ended up using a pair of needle nose pliers that had a wire cutter on them and I cut the wires to my depth finder. I used the needle nose to loosen the starting battery connections and connected this small battery to the starting battery. After 2 attempts to start her up she finally fired up. What a great sound that was. I quickly bottled everything up and headed back to the boat ramp with a big goofy smile. Two batteries important? It could be the difference between hours of frustration or a minor pause in the fun. And fun is why we boat :)
