2 hp emergency back up motor?

I was thinking about buying a 2hp johnson 2 stroke for an emergency back up for my 50hp johnson. I have a 18ft bass boat that is used on the ocean in Tampa Bay. Will a 2hp push this boat at all? Could it be used as a trolling motor too?

7.5hp minimum... 9.9 better

yes, you could troll with a 2, but no good for emergency on a windy day

I would just use a canoe paddle as an emergency backup considering that it won't break, weighs less, is cleaner, doesn't need gas/oil and it will move your boat at about the same speed as a 2hp.

Is the bass boat fiberglass? If it's aluminum the 2hp would push her a little better but like already mentioned- not much help in some waves/wind.

It will make encouraging noises but not really get you anywhere.
Personally I would go with a 7.5 or 9.9

lol...thanks guys, I will keep looking for an electric trolling motor instead and give up on the emergency backup idea.

I'd recommend a 55lb or bigger thrust Minn Kota- should do what you need just fine on the bass boat. Good luck to ya:)
