I have had this motor for a little while, kept indoors. I recently tried to start it with no luck, then I noticed gas leaking out from a part of the motor. I see that everytime i turn the gas release valve beneath the tank, the gas just leaks out of this place (sorry dont know the name of the part of the motor, look at pics below. Red marks indicate where the gas is coming from.

I am a noob to this so any other helpful info would be appreciated.

Im guess this leak is why it wont start, i know it needs to be fixed =-P

I am also guessing that there is a gasket i need to replace here and that will solve my gas leak problem ?

Help pleeze

Re: 2 HP Seahorse '73 Help

Some clear diagrams HERE

It looks as though you have fuel leaking from the joint between the carburettor body and the float chamber.
There is a gasket in there, as you can see from the carburettor diagram in the above link, but if the engine is standing upright the fuel level in the carb should be below this joint.
Leakage from there indicates that not only is the gasket leaking but that the needle valve is not closing . It could simply be stuck or there could be dirt in it or it could be worn or the float could be stuck or defective.

A bit of a clean is called for and it may well be that the whole carburettor is gummed up and requires a thorough clean, perhaps rebuilding with a carb kit if one is available ( iBoats ??)

You should also check the spark
Replace the plug if necessary (Champion RJ6C gapped at 0.030") and if no spark inspect the coil, the points and the condenser.

A compression test might be worthwhile.

Thanx for the reply, and the diagram link very helpful.
I dont know the 1st thing about rebuilding a carb, but I will give it my best shot.
I will be back to this thread after I go out and attempt to take it apart.
