2 piece driveshaft question

Hi all.

Read some posts that were not entirely clear to me....Putting together a spare motor for the fishing season.

I have a good 20" lower from a 1997 Evinrude 115, that I'd like to put 25" shafts into. It should be the 2-piece shaft setup I believe.

If I slide-hammer out the upper, which bends the retainer inside, is there any issue with dropping in the longer upper and using it like that. Is it ok to NOT go inside and repair that clip and using it?

Else I'm searching for an afforadable 25" or looking at the Bay MFG extension kit.

Thanks for any input

there is also a pin that goes in there, why not open it and change it that way?

You can do it and it will work as the drive clip was put in there for manufacturing reasons. The clip was to prevent it the drive shaft from dropping out if somebody would pick up the gear case by the shaft and smashing their toes.

Thanks,

After writing this, I found the thread that talked alot about it. Including Boobie's earlier comments.

I'm going to try to remove it, as i have access to a 25" shaft and shift shaft. I have two good 20" units idle now so its worth a try on one!

Thanks for the reply.
