2 questions on my 1967 Starcraft!

Once again, I have a 1967 Starcraft 15' fiberglass.
I have tried to find the model I have everywhere, but can't find the same exact boat anywhere!
Anybody know what I have? It's always either the windshield is different, or the transom is different...

Also the other question I had, was what would you think the max rated HP on this would be? I have an old 1964 Evinrude Sportfour 60 hp that runs alright, and a 1968 95hp Merc that runs like a dream!

I'm guessing the 95 hp might be too much, but this is a fairly heavy boat, and it is much more of a reliable motor. I guess I wouldn't really have to open her up wide open...

I'm taking the merc 950 out today on the boat it came on (1969 Hydroswift 14') too see how well she runs. Definitely will be wearing my lifevest for this one!

I'll post more tonight on how it goes!

Also what are you ideas on the Merc 950? The one I have is a 1968... is that an alright year?

when i was a kid we had a starcraft just like yours. but sorry it didnt have a model number either. but i can tell you that it came from the dealer with a 90 horse evinrude on it, and it handled it with no problem at all. i dont see why running the merc of yours would be an issue

Very nice! That is the good news I was hoping for!

I'm kinda in awe that I can't find the model anywhere!
It kinda looks like the Holiday, but yet is still different!

Thanks for the info on the motor!

Nice! See, the second one kinda looks like mine (slightly) but has the full wrap around windshield, and mine has the more square step through style windshield.

I'm at a loss... I found a site that shows just about every single old starcraft model, and still couldn't find mine!!!

The title doesn't have the model either.

I guess I'll just give up? Not like it really matters that much, but it's something that is really bothering me when you don't know what kind of boat you have, ya know?

Im in the same .......boat?...... But Im not too concerened with it.
Ya know, someone could have changed the windshield at some point in time. and, modified the transom

Thats what I'm beginning to think. If they modified the transom, they did a REALLY good job of it!

At this point, that might just be the only explanation!

Re: 2 questions on my 1967 Starcraft!

I took the hydroswift out to test the Merc 950 out today.
I'm putting this motor on my 15' Starcraft, but wanted to
see how well she ran. Runs like a dream!

Here is a link to a 24 second video of me, a friend, and his son.

Alone in the boat with just me and a gas tank she cruised at nearly 50 mph!

A little too much for this boat, but as I said I think I'll put this on my starcraft!

Here's the video, uploaded to photobucket:

That Merc sounded sweet and strong. I'll bet your boat will do just fine with it. Good luck and post some pics and video after the transplant.

(Nice looking lake too!)

Re: 2 questions on my 1967 Starcraft!

Thank you! I'm happy with it for sure!
I'll be swapping motors/controls/steering throughout this week, and next weekend.
I'll take the Starcraft out and get some video. I'm thinking it's going to ride smoother than the Hydroswift. The Hydroswift was pretty rough over other wakes, and wasn't cutting through the water as well as I thought it would.

The motor is all I want though, I'm taking the back to back seats, motor, controls, steering, speedo, tach, fuel tanks, etc... pretty much everything nice and putting it into the Starcraft to kinda "finish a project" for once!

Then I'll start on the Hydroswift.

Next video I'll try to get some "bouncys" on board! ;)

hahahahaha

ahhhh, good times.

Boating sure is fun.

...anyway, was it just the choppy water that made it a little rough?

Re: 2 questions on my 1967 Starcraft!

Yeah, I think the choppy water had a lot to do with it, but I think overall this boat just has to small of a hull. I know its only 1 foot shorter than the starcraft, but the whole hull is quite a bit smaller.

Felt like it was going to barrel roll over other wakes, and I think it was too light as the nose kept wanting to bounce up and down and not just get up and plane.

I think a little heavier, bigger boat would ride smoother, but at the same time, I'm fairly new at this and maybe I'm wrong?

I'm willing to sacrifice the speed for the ride... plus, I won't necessarily be cruising at 50 a whole lot!

I'll post new video of the swap soon!

Re: 2 questions on my 1967 Starcraft!

No it's a semi V hull, the starcraft is a "concave V Hull"...

I hear the concave V is designed for smoother ride in rougher waters,
have you heard anything like this?

There was an old starcraft advertisement with the same hull design (for the most part) and that's what it stated...

I guess I'll find out here in a couple of weeks!
