2 stroke 8ph Johnson (J8RVSIE)- how much smoke is normal?

All:

Mine smokes like crazy! Twelve year old motor, hasn't run in ten years, went through all the checks recommended here, started it with the lower in a bucket of water with new gas at 50:1 as per the manual, and I got a LOT of blue smoke. Is this normal? Will it diminish as the engine is run?

Any thoughts/insight much appreciated.

They (2 stroke motors) will smoke more at initial start up till they reach operating temp. When running in a bucket the motor isn't in motion so the smoke kind of envelopes the motor giving the impression that there is more smoke than normal. Take it out for a good lake run and see if there is any improvement.
