2 stroke oil question

I have a 98 150 Johnson ficht and I was lying in bed last Thursday before Easter thinking I must check the oil resevoir soon. On Friday I was about 2 hours from the boat ramp when the low oil alarm went off. I also have a Mariner 15 auxiliary and in case I ever need to use the under floor tank to run it I carry a bottle of 2 stroke oil. Although there was plenty of oil to get me home it got me thinking is it ok to use the brand x oil in place of XD100 in an emergency situation i.e. an hour or two or is this a don't-even-think-it thing.
cheers

Re: 2 stroke oil question

FICHT and Optimax invented the fact that DFI engines require a different spec oil than carbed 2 strokes. The early ones would blow up if they got regular TC-W3 oil.

No way would I put anything but a DFI oil, like XD100, in that FICHT. On the other hand, I think that your Mariner would run just fine of XD100.

Two other points to consider.

BRP advertized that one could cut the oil line on an e-TEC motor, and then drive it for several hours w/o oil. I do not know if your motor was the one they said had this feature, however.

The Owners Manual for my neighbors 2007 or so Optimax 150HPV6 advises that regular TCW-III is fine to use.

Thanks for that, I think I'll go with the don't even think about it attitude.
I thought it would be the case, just thought I'd ask!
Why would a manufacturer advise to remove a part?? It's like saying you can remove the brakes in your car if you don't use them constantly...
