Put about 2 hours more on the supertech tonite, as I am running all I can get out before going back to J/E XD-25.
Idle still sucks to say the least, and my mid section looks like you changed the oil in your car and poured it all over it.....Heck, the quicksilver never done that either.
I've seen all I need to see, and at this point, I have no use or good to say about supertech, and I hope it hasn't shortened the life of my engine...........

Re: 2 stroke oil, Topic will not go away !

I'm with Kenny and 1stoutboard. The time I've been forced(had to go to Wally because profssional shop was closed) to run "generic" oil in my chainsaws, stringtrimmers or hedgetrimmers the low idle is rough or non-existent, they smoke like a bear, and the smoke smells foul. I will not ruin a $500. saw to save $.50 on a bottle of oil. I'm fairly new to outboards but feel the same. $5,000. for a new motor or $5.00 more for a gallon of oil? The math works! The question of synthetic(Amsoil and like) or Dino still intrigues me though and I am all for something that smoke and pollutes less if the protection is still there. Thanks to the many knowledgeable and their time helping us newbies!!

kennys

Did you switch back to the XD25? If so, did the running performance improve to pre-supertech time?

kennys, Just for the experimentation of a product, try some of BMC's Ficht oil with carbX. I've had extremely good results. The lack of smoke ,after warming up , and trolling capability is excellent. If you only got one gallon ,I'd like to know the results you get. You seem to get more time on the water than most of us and could probably come up with more conclusive results depending on the type of engine and so on. nevjb

Can you use the FICHT Ram oil in a Johnson with carburetors?

Dartman, yes, I've switched back to XD-25. It took about 3 hours run-time, but guess what.....my idle is smooth again, and no black streaks of spent oil all over the leg.
I was a little concerned that I had fouled my plugs and would not have a good idle even with the XD-25, but it cleaned up with about an hour of run-time at WOT.
It is my understanding that Ficht Ram oil can be used in 50:1 premix, or injection, for both styles of outboards. I intend to try that next.
I'm all for cleaner running too, also not against synthetics, but it WILL say TC-W3 on it before I use it, and with the Ficht Ram, I feel confident it will provide all that.
I run almost 20 hours this week so I will be trying the Ficht maybe next week, although my Texoma trip will be weds-sun. We'll see how it works out....... :)

Thanks. I think I'll use the Ficht Ram oil when I use up the XD25. My dealer sells it for $13/gallon when you supply the container. $3 more than the XD25.

The 2004 Evinrude catalog has pictures of XD25, XD50 and XD100 oil. Does anyone know about the XD50 and XD100. For the new ETECs, you must use the XD100, with the appropriate ECM programming, for the advertised 3 year maintneance interval. Is the XD50 a rename of the FICHT oil, and the XD100 the Bio-D, or two completely new oils?

I know the XD-25, is 25% synthetic, so I would guess 50%, and 100% accordingly?????????
