all i like better about 4 strokes is that you dont have keep buying 2 stroke oil while 4 stroke oil chnage can be a hassle but its cheap and like once a year? but the oil solution is solved by the new oil injection from optimax vmax and etec

I hear ya, but this is only a 9.8hp and I don't think Evinrude makes 'em that small. If they did I don't think I could afford it anyway! $$:eek:$$ I decided on the Tohatsu 4-stroke because it was the least expensive in it's class...and that 3 year warranty doesn't hurt either!:)

Other than being a lot quieter, the only thing i caould see in the vid is that the safety lanyard was hooked to the motor on both ends,,, Im assuming this in case the motor falls overboard then it will shut it down...:D

i have the same tohatsu on my 1444 g3 jon. i get 19 mph w/ 1 guy wot. i only get 9.9 mph w/ 2 guys. w/ 2 i can only get about 4600 rpm. w/ 1 i get 5500 rpm. i do notice some surging when i let it idle. i installed a tiny tach w/ a hr meter to keep track of maint. i only wish i had gotten the electric start option. my boat will take up to a 25 hp, i think i will be going with a 20 hp in the future. i bought mine at online outboards .com.i called them and got a little better price then the one posted on the website. 1600 to the front door!. this is my first outboard that i have owned.i am truly anal about maint.i just put togather my stand to keep it in the garage this winter. good luck and post when u can get some rpm numbers.

The Chinese engines are Yamaha clones.

I have a 60hp Johnson 4 stroke electronic fuel injected. It starts as soon as I touch the key. I guess I've never noticed a smell. Then again, I never back troll it either. I use the bow mount trolling motor. Very quiet/fuel efficient and you could idle around all day without it loading up like a 2 stroke. If I were to go back to a 2 stroke it would be a an Evinrude E-Tec. They're supposed to be as efficient as a 4 stroke but without all the xtra weight. Being a 2 stroke, it would be faster too. Probably would be more noticeable in a bigger motor....

Yeah, I love the way the Johnson sounds too! The holeshot was nice too!:D Oh well, I still get to run her a few weeks a year. Anyways, I'm loving the Tohatsu more and more after each trip for all of the saved $$$$!

Different strokes for different folks. (ooh, there's a pun there :) )

To me there is nothing like the sound of a green tank Merc or a tower of power Merc doing a hole shot. Or the throaty roar of a vintage OMC V4.

If they ever go away I'll miss'em!
