I have a 1996 ranger r70. Yesterday the circuit breaker between the batteries and the fuse block went bad. Is it ok to connect the wires and run it that way for a day or should I wait until I have this breaker fixed. What is the function if they have fuses already in the system?

Welcome to iboats!

That circuit breaker is there to protect the 10 or 8 gauge wires that run to the fuse block and negative buss bar in case of a short. I wouldn't bypass this function.

Thanks for the reply. I am new to boating so every little thing concerns me which I think is good. I will try to get another fuse @ my local marine store. Would you know if most marine stores carry them or is this a special order item? It is an E-T-A 38A 250vac 26vdc 45-700-SIO-DD 4745 if that means anything.

Have you googled the P/N to see if it's available any where? That's an Eaton breaker, if I'm not mistaken.

Might want to swap it out with a Bussman or Blue Seas surface mount, available at any Worst...

The company is E-T-A. I googled the part number, but, didn't come up with anything other than the company. They have a few parts that resemble the one i'm looking for , but, not the exact match. I'm pretty sure the part is OEM so it may be that the part has been replaced since '96.

You could safely put a 20A inline fuse there as a temporary fix.

I wondered about that!!! But, not having a strong electrical background I didn't want to damage anything. IF I have to wait on the breaker, I will definietly use that as a temporary alternative.
