20 ft kayot deck boat....Should I buy? need advice.

There is a 20 ft kayot deck boat or harris flotebote I guess they are called also in my area for sale. It has a 150hp evin ob on it. Motor was just redone i guess so very low hrs. Just had new tires and wiring on trailer and new battery put in. Some of the seats are cracking on top and there is a soft spot where the skis would go into the floor. They are asking $2500. I think i could get lower but was wondering is this thing worth it. I have 5 kids and this would be perfect I think and much easier to load than a pontoon. Also would like anybody that has owned one of these around same yr to chime in and let me know how you liked it and what you thought about it or any bad things to look for. Most likely will go and see if i can get loan for it monday but want any opinions. thanks.

If it has a soft spot in the floor its more than likely the transom it shot to.

Not necessarily. The edge of the plywood around the locker is likely not sealed very well, so rot can start there easily. I'd be more concerned about soft spots elsewhere.

That being said, you had better check out the entire structure before offering a dime.

The soft spot is supposed to be around where the ski's go into floor which don't know area location because I don't know how it is setup yet. have to go look at it still. I will be checking everything out.

Those old Deck boats are fun. but the old trihull type hulls can be rough riding in chop.

Thanks to all who have responded.... I ended up buying the same boat but from different seller. it's identical except its a 5.0 with omc stringer sterndrive i believe. outdrive needs repairing that's why i got whole package for $1200 also comes with a new full length bimini top. Question i have is I am just getting into taking stern drive apart and would like to know a few things. Is it correct to disconnect shift cable at motor and pull it through inter housing to pull outdrive off? Seller thought upper gears were out but from what i can tell seems it's the water pump shaft thats spun/broken. The upper gear that connects to ball gear shaft looks 100% fine just not sure about lower one yet above water pump. it does not shift into any gear and does not pump water. It does push some air bubbles out the water intake holes when motor is running. Do i need any special tools to take water pump/shaft assembly apart?

Start a new thread in the OMC repair forum of Iboats. You'll get lots of engine/outdrive help there.

This is late...but yes did get it going. After getting quotes of some $700-$1000 to get it fixed I decided to do it myself. Pulled drive off and it was water shaft that was spun. Ordered 2 new shafts from ebay for $160 and did it myself in an afternoon. Runs sweet but really needs an electric choke on motor for first cold start of day. otherwise will be doing new floor,carpet and reupholster all vinyl this spring myself. love this boat. has plenty of power about 45mph loaded with 5 people can fish from all sides, can swim from and tube. way better than a pontoon in my opinion.
