20 Hour Service Cost

Hi all,

I'm the proud new owner of a 2007 H190. We've already had her out a number of times this season and are coming up on the first 20 hours of engine time. I was surprised when I called to get a quote on this service that it is north of $300. The owner's manual describes it as an oil and filter change, but the shop tells me it is 3+ hours of work.

So, I'm curious what is done at the 20hour service other than an oil change and tightening down of a few things? Engine is the Mercruiser 4.3 MPI (220HP).

So how'd this work out for you? I recently purchased the same boat and am at 10 hours. Re; the oil change, i was told by the dealer that they change to synthetic at 20 hours.

I have a 2008 H180 with the 3.0 volvo. The 20 hour tune up was $156 for me.

Folks, if the engine configuration is like mine then the engine cover needs to be removed to replace the oil filter. That task alone probably adds 1 hour of labor to the bill.

My 5.7L Volvo owners manual suggests the first oil change after 50 hours. Should I also consider one after 20 hours? Please help!!!

Jack, my H190 also says that the first service is at 50 hours. I just know that the the staff/tech guy who went through the boat with me after the sale said to make sure to do a 20 hour service and further to replace the oil with synthetic at that time. The service shops seem to know this as well.
