Both have their fans. Both sell well, though the Glastron outsells Stingray. Which is the best choice will depend on what flavor you like. Glastron is a lot more fashionable. Also noted for good holeshot, which will help skiing. Stingrays are more traditional, and they are also fast. A Stingray would work better for me, but I don't ski.

More threads on such bowriders -

Opinions on Stingray Boats

BoatingABC.com » ... » 04 Phoenix bowrider $$

Kelly Cook

Re: 20' Stingray or Glastron

I'd seriously consider the Stingray 220LX or 230LX rather then the 200 just because of the factory rebates available on these two models at this time. The cost savings is rather attractive!
You can't go wrong with the Stingray. Independent builder and the Stingray forum is a great tool also. Not often do I say this but I don't feel the Glastron is in the same leauge - The VEC technology is not without it's critics let's say.
If you have specific questions about the Stingray line you can access the Guest site on the Stingray forum thru their wesite where actual owners of any model can reply to you. It's a very active site and it's owners while very pro-Stingray, can give you any heads up that may pretain to a given model.

Re: 20' Stingray or Glastron

I own a glastron and it is great. I looked at all the boats in my price range and the glastron was the only one that fit in my garage. I got the folding tongue on the trailer. That being said I looked really hard at the 22ft. stingray bowrider and man was it nice and very fast! I would buy a stingray in a second but it didn't fit in the garage and wife said it had to fit. My new fishing boat I replace the bluewater with will be a stingray centerconsole MS20. That is a sweet fishing machine and it is built on the same hull as the 20 bowrider. my only question is do I get the diesel or 4.3 mpi?
I think you will be very happy with either boat they are both built very well. Go with the one you like to look at the most. When I go out in the garage I still think man that is a nice boat.

Re: 20' Stingray or Glastron

I own a '95 656zp Stingray, this model is now called the 220LX. It has been a good boat and with the 350 runs somewhere around 57 mph with the 3 blade prop. I usually run a mercury high 5, 5 blade steel prop, with this it tops out around 52 mph but pulls better out of the hole.

Stingray boats haven't changed much over the years, the new 220 looks almost exactly like my '95. Stingray also still uses wood in the transoms and deck. This isn't a problem really, that's the way all boats used to be made. A lot of buyers now don't want to hear that though. It's interior doesn't have the options some of the newer boats have.

That said it has been a solid boat, handles great, has plenty of room and storage space, it works good as a ski boat with the right prop.

I would consider the Caravelle 207. This boat is 20 ft. 3 inches long and has a 8ft 6inch beam. Much wider than the other two. The speed is about the same as the others even with the extra room. Fit, finish and quality is as good or better than the Glastron or the other. Contact me for a price or if you want more information.
Paul
paulie5p@aol.com

Rc Marine,
I didn't think he was asking someone to try and sell him a caravelle. He wanted to know about the stingray and glastron 20footers. He wanted to know how happy the owners of these boats with their product.
