Aquired a little 19' Mako basket case and i'm in the early stages of figuring out the floor plan and such....

Anywhooo, the original transom is a 20", however i'm thinking about making it a 25" transom to help with waves comming up and over the transom splashwell when i'm at sea..

My question is, what handling problems might I encounter with reguards to the X dimension if I raised the transom to 25 inches and used a 25" shaft outboard? Don't want a boat that does funny stuff... :D

Thanks..

A 25" motor on a 25" transom shoul be just fine on that boat. Your horizontal center of gravity will be very slightly different but I doubt you'll see any difference. The lower unit will still end up in the same place as it is now.

Look at your mounting holes. The only possible little deal may be where the bottom ones come thru the transom 5" higher. Sometimes that puts the holes right in line with the splashwell or something like that.

You won't see any difference I have done that on 3 boats with no problem at all, one was a old early 50's lonestar 15' stainless boat I raised the transom and put a 115hp merc on it wow what a jet ski  , but still no problems except after i ran it a year the lake gustafo said if they saw the boat again they would ticket me. said i was about 60hp overpowered  Oh bye the way replace the whole transom not just add 5" to the top.
