hi

im researching possibly repowering a new BW Nanutcket i bought and shall have soon. It has a 115 mercury 4 stroke on it. looking at higher hp 4 strokes (ie suzuki or yamaha). i see adsd for new or near new suzukis for example with a 25" shaft. what does that mean? does the number reflect the height of the transom it can go on?

thanks
sal

Re: 20" vs 25" shaft

Yes, the 20" is considered "long", and the 25" is considered "X-long". measure from top of transon to bottom of keel (top to bottom). This should tell you the engine shaft length you require. A 25" can be used on a 20" transom if you have a jackplate, but don't expect any extra performance.
Usually the 25" is a fair shake more in cost as well...... :)
