I recently installed a 1989 Evinrude 200 on my boat and after I got done installing the motor, I had my local boat mechanic change the water pump along with a few minor things and check my work. Before I dropped the boat off I started the motor and ran it on 2 seperate occasions and every thing was fine. My mechanic called a few days later and said the job was done BUT the motor was not firing. I went up there to pick up the boat and he spent a good hour with me, showing me how the motor had no spark and then all of a sudden it started up and ran fine.
So, I take the boat home start it up again and notice my tach is not reading anything. I checked the power and ground and it looks good.
I got home today and went to start up the boat to test another tach I have and it would not start, no spark again.
I am at a loss as of where to start to diagnose these problems, but I believe they are related.
I am leaning towards new power pack, timer base, or rectifier. What do you guys think?
