Stats: 1988 200 HP Evinrude

Condition: Water pressure falls to 0 above 2500RPM under load but not in neutral. No over temp warning is sounded. Temp switchs checked in heated motor oil ok. Horn circuit ok. Water from telltale ok. New water pump gauge installed. Water control Valve appears to switch properly through the trottle ranges.

Findings: Wear plate has a groove at the leading edge of the impeller fins.

Questions:
1. Could the above cause this condition.
2. Am I missing something else I should be looking at.

Want to fight fish not my boat.
Thanks

Re: 200 evinrude water pressure failure

Hello kline
My pressure line is tied in on the starboad side of the power pack at a tee fitting.
The new gauge is a replacement the old one was froze up. I have had multiple problems. Rectifier burnout, bad temp switch causing SLOW alarm. I fixed the other issues and replaced the broken gauge. Set up the tank in the driveway and ran the motor. I had no water pressure at guage. I removed the lower unit connected a hose removed water connection points and flushed the motor. Put everything back together and yee ha water pressure.
When I put the boat on the water I noticed the water pressure drop when running at higher RPM.
I put the boat in neutral and reved the pressure held. Tried to drive again and pressure dropped.
I know the water inlet was able to draw at WOT had a guy check when on plane.
Im going to replace the pump componants and see what happens. I hate to just part swap but I don't know what else could be causing this problem.

Re: 200 evinrude water pressure failure

I am sad to say I bought the boat some time ago and the oringinal gauge didnt work then. I just replaced it. The new gauge was reading about 3 pounds at idle and up to about 20 lbs before it would cut out. I was looking at that tee fitting as well. Never saw one hooked up that way before. Your right it does connect to the telltail. Im going to search some installation instruction online and get it right.

Thanks for your help. Have a good one.
Don W

Hello Kline
Found some info. Looks like a good site for installation info on a lot of different items. You should check it out. Go to the site select Tech Support, on the next page scroll down to item you want.

Teleflex Electrical Systems

Check it out and tell me what you think. Might help some of the other folks looking for info.

Don W
