Still having problems with a 1994 200 that only puts out between 12.6 to 13.0 volts, usually dropping throughout the trip. It can drop under 12 with a lot of trolling. I have replaced the R/R in the past, diagnosed easily from the intermittent tach, but tach works fine now. Will try to perform the resistance test on the stator in the next few days.

Can the R/R be bad while the tach still works? and can the A/C voltage be checked with the engine running, seems all that wiring was buried betwee the R/R and the flywheel if I remember correctly.

Re: 200 Oceanrunner not charging

Jeremy, If the tach works the stator is putting out some voltage. Disconnect the V/R from the stator and put an ohmmeter on the two yellow stator wires. You should have continuity between the yellow wires, but not from either of them to ground. If either has contunity to ground the stator is bad. Hopefullly that is your problem. If not, eiter you need to take it into a shop, or replace the V/R. CDI makes a good aftermarket one for a few bucks less.

The OEM Service manual has a test for the V/R, however it involves putting a 35A load on the battery and using an ammeter to see if the boat will charge 35A. Not too useful for us amateurs to run, and it sounds like you V/R would fail this test anyway..
