I have a 2000 model 115 Evinrude and the gear control seems to not have the amount of travel that it used to have, I cannot get enough shift to get both forward and reverse, the cable is good (replaced) the engine shift is OK if moved manually without cable attached, I guess something must be worn/broken in the control box, any clues as to what wears in them?? or is a "kit" available, I have had a quick look and it all SEEMS OK.

Since the cable was replaced, its very possible it was misadjusted when installed. Make sure you don't have the cables reversed. When moving the control box lever, the shift cable is first one to move. Disconnect both cables at the engine. Put the control box in neutral. Make sure the engine shift linkage is in neutral. Now bring the shift cable end up to the attachment point. If the two don't line up perfectly, adjust the barrel on the cable until the attachment points line up perfectly. Don't push or pull anything. If you must do that the cable is not adjusted properly. Repeat the process for the throttle cable making sure the throttle linkage on the engine is against the stop when adjusting the cable. When finished, move the lever on the control box full forward. The butterflies in the carbs should be perfectly parallel with the throttle bores. If not, a link & sync operation is necessar. DO NOT adjust the cables to get more "throw" one way or the other. Getting more throw in one direction takes away "throw" from the other.

all that is OK, it was replaced "on suspicion" to remedy the problem, I have adjusted and relaced lots of cables and it is all adjusted, there just is not enough movement, like as if something has worn in the control, maybe there is a few bits worn a bit and nothing is worn a lot, making it hard to tell what to replace!

Any ideas anyone?? i will be doing it this weekend, so, unless someone can suggest a common wear part, I guess I will be "flying blind" and hope to find the worn parts.

Most every moving part in the control box is bushed and those bushings can wear out. They are available as replacement parts.
