I am thinking of buying a 2000 175hp fitch motor.model e175fpxssr.I have read lots of negative comments about this engine.Am I crazy to get involved with it?I have no way of knowing if the ecm update was done or the powerheads where replaced.I live on an island and there are no certified fitch techs with the proper diagnostic tools.

Many people believe that was the technology that was the cause of the OMC decline and bankruptcy.

I have no information to the contrary.

It is fairly certain that, if you buy it, you are completely on your own.

If I could not verify that the engine has been fully updated to BRP updates I wouldn't have it for a gift.

Most of the negatives relate to the fichts which were produced by OMC, through the 1999 model year. There were a number of recalls/campaigns on these engines. Bombardier produced them from 2000 model year on, and provided warranty and technical assistance. They do not have the history of problems that the 1999 and prior models do.

Well if you are living in an area where there is no way anybody can properly diagnose it and fix it, then I'd say take a pass on it.

I have a 2000 150hp Ficht, and it's still going strong with about 500-600 hours on it, and have never done anything besides PM on it, never had any problems whatsoever. They are good engines. But I'd say if you are living in an area like you are, you should probably stick to the old technology that is easier to diagnose, and find parts for.
