Re: 2000 200 hp evinrude ficht

I read about BRP earlier in this thread; whats that stand for? Can I send my EMM directly to them. I had already sent it to another place and they said there wasnt anything defective with it. I am running out of options

Only an authorized Evinrude dealer can exchange the EMM for you, but be prepared for sticker shock. Evinrude is owned by Bombardier Recreational Products, www.brp.com

dfitechnologies.com is the only FICHT repair place for ECU's, EMM's, and injectors and they do a good job.

Just a bit of advice, you hijacked another person's thread on FICHT problems. It is good internet forum courtesy and manners to start your own thread to keep things from getting confused with different people with different boats and motors asking about different questions, all on the same page.

As I read all the forum's it seems there are alot of people with this same proplem but no one seems to ever finish the thread and
tell what fixed the problem. Did get a couple of things to try as I wait for the mechanic to check it out?

Hello everybody,

I had EXACTLY the same probleme on my 200FPXSRB 2004 ficht ram. I could run it very well for one hour but when i shuted it off i had the 3 lights on (no oil hot check engine) and couldn't restart within about 45 minute when the motor was totaly cold. I live on a tropical island (New Caledonia) when it's hot all year and it's not the kind of problem i like to have, especially when you have to wait for a motor to be "cold" :D ...

THE only solution i found after 6 months of investigation with ALL the mechanic i could find, reading thousands of pages in forums, even the local dealer could not answer clearly on that problem.

i have sent the EMM to DFI TECHNOLOGIES (cost me 200 $ for shipping the EMM with fedex and 700 $ for repair and shipping back). they made the repair in a few days and called me when it was done, I had to wait 1 month with the shipping time ... I was REALLY happy when John from DFI called me to say my EMM was effectively faulty and that they had rebuild it. I only had to plug it back and start the engine, no need to recalibrate or anything.

I have to precise that my battery was not in good condition or maybe too small for the 200 ficht when the EMM died. It's very important to now that a 200 Evinrude needs at least 800 Cold cranking amperes for a good start, I have learned from that (too late) and now plugged a new OPTIMA red that deliver 912 Amp and a second battery only for the equipement.

A dead or inapropriate battery can kill an EMM

Here is the solution i found and i'm really satisfied with DFI and their job, they saved my evinrude and it had never run greater than today, I used to run at 5700 RPM a full speed, i'm now at 6500 RPM and the motor runs like a swiss clock.

i wanted to share my experience on that problem as there is a lot of people that encounter the same syndrom, i hope it will help you.

ps: i have no link with DFI, i'm just a very happy customer :)

Cheers from New-Caledonia

Did you look into getting a new EMM from BRP? For that model/year they're going for around $1k including overnight shipping. Compared to what DFI will charge (around $850+shipping), you would end up with a brand new unit and 1 year warranty. Also, you'll get it in 24 hours in most cases.
I had similar experience and went back and forth with DFI 3 times. 4 weeks later EMM was still bad plus I was out all the overnight shipping. Broke down and got a new one from my Evinrude dealer, plugged it in and have not had any issues since. Just consider your options.
