Having just had one of my 2 (starboard) 2000 225 fichts on my 28 foot Center Console blow a rod, not really wanting to start replacing power heads, and heard all the horror stories about pre 2000 fichts, what is the scoop on which years are holding up now since I'm going to have to replace it with something.
I'm tempted to get a larger 2002 250 for 12K and replacing the other old unit in a year or two, but I'm not sure if running two different sized motors is a good idea, and I'll probably never find another new 2002 250 to match it in a year or two. Or the dealer also has a direct replacement 2003 225 for 16K. Maybe y'all would say fix the power head. I'm open to sugestions.

Thanks for your opinion. Has anyone ever replaced a powerhead and actually had positive, long lasting results? What kind of warrantee should I expect?

I had a rod blow on my 98' Johnson FICHT 150 due to a bad oil sending unit. I (the warranty) replaced the unit and the powerhead, and all is good. Now, it's a great motor.

Bombardier sells remanufactured powerheads thru their dealers. You get a 1 year warranty with them.

I'd recommend sending the bad cylinder's injector and the oiling assembly to DFI to clean any debris and to rebuild and recalibrate them.

www.dfitechnologies.com

Thanks everyone! I ended up sending my swiss cheese power head down to Riverside Marine in Little Rock. They did a wonderfull job of replacing the powerhead and changing over all the "Stuff" attached to it (Man, there is a lot of stuff!) I asked them to replace injector and the oil lift pump also. One of the plastic fuel manifold lines got cracked in shipment. And I screwed up the exhaust housing adapter plate when I first removed it, befor I found those extra bolts. So I bought an old broken 2000 200HP Ficht and canablized the parts I needed. Its been running fine. Shortly thereafter my other motor's EMM sh*t the bed. No spark. I sent it out to Fuel Injection Technologies and they replaced it with another one which they reprogrammed. The first one arrived broken in shipment by UPS.(naturually!) But the second one made it OK . I rebuilt my water pump and it seams to be pumping more water at a higher pressure (I figure thats probably what caused it to fry) All fixed running great 3 week befor pulling it out for the winter. Jeeze....
