I have a 2000 200hp Evinrude FICHT. This was bought used and for the last 2 years the motor will shut down while running. It appears to be heat related as if you wait 15 to some times 55 minuntes the warning ligths will finally go off and the motor will start and run fine, till the next shut down! The amount of time between shutdowns varies from months to hours. I did notice that if I run wide open it has not happened yet, until I slow down then it shuts down if I turn the key off. Had the waterpump just changed and all water lines were removed and cleaned. The "OMC" help line is stumped and so are the dealers. The onboard computer does not show a record of any alarms or shutdowns. It used to be a rare thing but now it happens 5 - 6 time a day. Thanks for any help.

CHECK THE ENGINE WITH A TEMP GUN TO MAKE SURE IT IS OVERHEATING ON TOP OF CYL HEADS.WERE THE THERMOSTATS REPLACED,MAYBE THEY ARE STICKING IN THERE SEATS OR UNTIL YOU GO TO FULL THOTTLE,ALSO INSPECT IN THERMO SPRINGS.FLUSH THE MOTOR & DOUBLE CHECK THE COOLING HOSES BY PULLING ONE BY ONE.CHECK FOR BLOCKAGE IN ECU OR EMM.MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE A BAD TEMP SENDER.

Re: 2000 200hp overheat

I had the same problem on my 99' 150. Would just stop all of a sudden, no error codes, and would last for up to an hour. Turned out to be a component on the ciruit board that failed when it got hot enough. The dealer replaced the EMM.

BTW, the dealer could reproduce the problem by running in a tank for hours on end.

Good luck
