I am looking for a place to pick up a spare duo prop for my 2000 250SE running a 5.7GS Penta, I would be fine with sticking with the stock pitch but would like to find an aluminum replacement option for cost savings.

I am just not sure exactly what I need to look for as far as model and pitch. My current SS unit is mint all redone in perfect shape but I realize accidents happen so would like to grab a spare before the summer/spring is here.

Looking for some feedback,

Thanks

If your current props are in as good of condition as you described then you should be able to ascertain the series and pitch# you have now. The series will be one letter then one digit, like F5, C5, B5, etc. That is the series and pitch, Volvo does not use actual pitch#'s. Both props should have the same number. That is your starting point, especially if the boat performs well now.

F series is Stainless for SX type drives (drive is usually grey), D series is aluminum for those types.
C series is for DPA/B/C and 290-280 drives (drive is usually white) and are stainless, B series is aluminum for those drives.

The attached document from Volvo Penta may help, although it usually confuses me when I try to compare Alum to SS in the same drive types....

Since aluminum sets go for $700+, I would just stay off the rocks and not worry about carrying an extra set.

If you manage to mangle your's, you should still be able to limp back to port.

In you insist on shopping, just Google "Volvo Penta Duo props for sale" and find several venders who will be happy to sell a set to you.

I managed to bend both the F5 stainless props on my previous Chris*Craft. I docked for the day at a state park slip that (unbeknownst to me) had a concrete ledge sticking out from the bulkhead, below the water. Tide went out and the boat bounced up and down on it for awhile. The blades were bent up pretty good.

I only discovered it because there was a little vibration and my wake didn't look 'right'. Getting home was no issue. I had them refurbed by a very good local prop shop for $350-400 for the pair. They came out like new.

Unless you find a super deal somewhere I wouldn't bother to keep a second set around. They're just too darned expensive.

Thanks for the replies guys. My drive is a grey SX duoprop stainless steel. I recently did a big overhaul on the boat. I had the props removed and tuned straightened for a great deal of $170 for the pair. I had a minor tweak in each prop but overall good shape for the 440 hrs to date. Yes if props are gonna run me 700 for a "spare" set i may hold off unless i can find a screaming deal. The saved money can go towards a Garmin 546s w g2 vision card or 740s which i am planning to buy.

However if u have some great sites or links to pass on feel free. Thanks
