Hi I have twin mercruiser 4.3 engines and I need to change the water shutters.
I am being told two different stories concerning the replacement of these.
some people say that the newer drsign with the shutter mounted in a frame just snaps into place, to replace the old style with the square gromets on the outside.
the original number for mine is 807166A1 it is 2-1/2 inches wide with a 3 inch pin that fits into the groumets and 6inches long. I cannot seem to get the dimensions of the one in the bracket, since i have to ship these overseas i would prefer to know if its a direct replacement before buying. return shipping is about the cost of the item or more.

any one with experience in this please advise.

Thanks

Howdy,

I'm somewhat surprised that someone hasn't already jumped on this!!

Just go to any mercruiser parts dealer either in person or online and order the correct parts for your year model engine. If they're in stock, they'll give you either new old-stock shutters or the newer parts that superceded the old ones.

Here's an example....

If you want the newer style shutters, (and they're available for your engine) call one of the parts dealers on the phone, give them your engine model, serial number, year etc and they'll see if they are correct for your engine.

Regards,

Rick

Hey thanks
I was having problems getting the original part, and although some dealers told me that what they call the new model would work, none of them would agree to pay the return shipping, or just give me a refund if the part proved to be the wrong part. I even agreed to send pics to show if it did not work. so i was a bit afraid since they would not stand behind their words, and it actually cost more than the cost of the part to return the item so they know if it did not fit I would not return it.

I live over in Trinidad in the southern caribbean

I however was able to get the correct OEM part online. cost double the newer one but im sure that i would have the right part.
Hopefully its not a part that goes bad after a short time.

thanks

The shutters shown in your second picture WILL fit.
You will need to clean out all the corrosion in the exhaust Y where the sutters go before they will fit properly.
You also have to make sure you get the new style all the way in and the square protrusions on either side of the shutters fit into the holes from the old cross shaft bushings fit in the exhaust Y.
