2000 90 hp saltwater is there anyway to stop rust once its started? see pics

hey guys I have a 2000 90 hp mercury saltwater, That has started to rust as seen in the circled picture, Is there anthing I can do to stop this?(I bought the motor like this and would like to stop it before it gets really bad)

I think the name of it is Naval Jelly. It's a gooey substance that you brush on, let it sit and wash it off. Once something is cleaned with it it is slow to re-oxidize. Get her clean, then a little Zinc Chromate primer (auto paint stores usually carry it in a spray) and top off with Merc Phantom Black Lacquer.

Also, after you remove the rust/corrosion back to the clean, base metal, for tight areas you can spray your primer/paint onto a Q-Tip and apply it that way to prevent overspray from getting all over. After you get it all clean, primed and painted, let it dry real good and spray the area with white Lithium Grease to make a great waterproof protective coating. Good Luck!
