I took my boat in about 6 weeks ago with small oil leak on front top seam of lower unit, the business replaced the shift rod seal and also cleaned the carburetors. I got the boat back and ran it the next day for 15 minutes when it started making a clanking noise and died, I raised it out of the water and oil was pouring out from the same seam as the original leak. The business now says I'm looking at a new powerhead and is accepting no responsibility, anyone have a opinion on this?

Did you check the engine oil before you left and is there any engine oil in it now? If the answers are NO and NO, the only thing you can blame the shop for is fixing the wrong thing. If you indeed blow the powerhead it was leaking oil, not the shift shaft.

The oil level was fine, the business owner says he found metal in the crankcase oil when they drained it.
