First, thanks in advance for your response and help...greatly appreciated.

Recently bought a boat with a 2000 90HP Carb. Ocean Pro that had been rear-ended by a car. The lower unit has been replaced and has run great...in the water 50hrs. No water in the foot oil-No prior shifting problems. Last trip out, the engine wouldn't go into neutral unless I went from forward to reverse first. This has never happened before. Could this be the shift rod out of adjustment? If so, is that an expensive fix by a shop? I read many threads about this...one mentioned "adjustable trunion is slipping out of its clamp socket at the engine." Is this in the lower unit?

Thanks again.

I would first disconnect the shifter cable at the motor and now try shifting it manually. If it shifts properly, the problem is in the cable and or adjustments.

HighTrim, thanks for the suggestion. One thing I failed to mention is that it seems to shift fine out of the water w/ ears on it.
