Hey guys, I am new to the forums but I have read many posts on here while searching for info on my "New to me" Bayliner. Let me start off by saying i am an automotive mechanic and i am handy with tools.
I just bought my first real boat, it is a 2000 Bayliner 1800 capri. I got got the boat for a fairly good price because it had a hurt 60 hp mariner on it. Right away i found a 97 mariner 115hp so i did the impeller and cleaned the carbs right away, then I got the motor mounted on the boat and very happy with it. Before taking it out with the 115 for the first time i decide to resecure the loose seating. As i get into the seat box i find all kinds of rotten wood! Knowing there are a few soft spots around the ski hatch I decide it will be best to look under the carpet and down in the ski hatch area. I find a rotten stringer and lots more rotten floor. At this point i want to fix it all the right way so i can enjoy the boat and i am very curious about boat construction. I removed the deck flooring and cut outmost of the bad parts to the stringers. My questions are now can i just fix the bad part of the stringers reglassit it in and be happy? What is the best way to do this and what materials are best to use? I am thinking "West systems Epoxy", Fiberglass matt more resin or epoxy? Any experince and all suggesstions are welcome. I would really like to get the boat back on the water.
Oh yea i am planning on using 1/2 marine plywood @77 dollars a sheet to do some of the chine work and use as the new flooring. Any thoughts on this?
