2000 Chevy Astro - Intermittant Power Windows

The front windows (electric) on my Astro have developed an occasional habit of stopping, while closing. They never stop while opening, only when the glass is moving up. If I wait a few seconds, they will move up a bit more and stop again. I've never had a problem with the windows not closing eventually, but when this happens, I have to move them a bit, move again, wait again, etc.

Anyone knows what causes this? Are the motors in the process of failing?

Jay it's usually the motor which is actually the cheapest part. The other two items it "could be" are the switch or the Body Control Module. Motors are cheap in the aftermarket arena.

Those vehicles have had a known Chevy disease know as a bad window motor for the longest time now. Probably also slow as molasses ?
A motor is about $50 new and oh so easy to change.

Nope, they don't **** - tracking seems to be fine. They just stop intermittantly. When they do this, I have to raise, wait, raise a little more, wait, etc. At other times the windows do just fine.

I had this happen on my Jeep Cherokee, so went and bought a new motor, only to find out is was a loose connection in the wiring, took it off, cleaned the contacts and reinstalled, no problem since, and that was a couple of years ago..

THis problem is motor related. The motor wears, get hot and the thermal overload trips. The thermal cools off the motor works for a while then it trips again. Forget the switches and all the other parts if it works when the van windows have not been touched - like when you've just gotten in it.

I agree it most likely is a weak motor but first spray some rubber lube on the widow rubber to help it slide and see if this helps

This makes sense to me. It describes what is going on from a visual standpoint, very well.
