I'm always harping on regional price differences and how off the charts MN prices are for pretty much any vehicle especially boats. This 15k Crownie is a standard example of it. Sorry, I'm not a pic poster but you can still click on the link since the ad is still up. The other day I saw a 1999 most basic, smallest Cobalt made for 25k when you can get a brand new 20 footer for 34k. Also I will mention that 19 foot 2 inch Crownline weighs as much as my 18 foot 3 inch Chaparral. I also have the basic 4.3 carb engine and there is a reason the premium brand small bowriders offer larger optional engines. It is because they are many times 25% heavier than their non-premium counterpart brands for the same length. My point is if I had it to do over again I wouldn't buy the 4.3 carb. I'd opt for at least the 4.3 mpi which of course wasn't available in 2000 as it was EFI so that would put me in a carb 5.0 at the least for a heavy boat such as that Crownline. The 4.3 works and actually not too bad considering it is really working hard but these boats need an mpi 6 or an 8 cylinder. I mentioned not hesitating to buy a CL with the right options and after a number of years with my similar boat, the 4.3 doesn't meet that criteria for me any longer.

Back to shopping. After a week of e-mails and a stack of pics just got back from looking at the Crownline in person. She avoided showing in the pics the big buckle in the floor behind the left seat. No way I'm paying 9 grand for an 11 year old boat that needs a floor.

Funny you replied jkust. Next option to look at tonight is a 2000 Chaparral 186 SSI Sport with a 5.0.

Jerico,

Last year I was in the same market of a 18-20ft boat w/ a 4.3L. Boats here in Rochester, NY that were in mid 90's were going for $4-5k. I ended up buying a 2000 Maxum 19ft w/ a 4.3L. It ran great and has a waterproof stringer system and a fiberglass cockpit w/ snap-in carpet. It is a cuddy and I paid $7,500 got him down $500 from the $8,000. I love it, though this year I did put about $1000 into it for bellows, impeller, dist cap, rotor, throttle cable, and trim sender units. It was just me trying to be prepared.

Looks like I'm probably going to go with my 2nd choice. It's a 1995 Regal 202 SE, 5.0 Mercruiser/Alpha 1, SS prop. Last spring oil change & engine tuneup. Last fall new bellows, lower shift cable & lower unit service. '07 Sea Ray tandem axle trailer w/surge brakes. Solid floor and transom. A couple dings in the bow but pretty clean otherwise. Any particulars to worry about with a Regal?

Regals are one of the top boats imho. My folks just got a new one in December and they love it. The only good question is how well the PO have taken care of it. If they have been up to date and taking care of the boat, then you have less to worry about, which that might be the case. I would look at the belllows and make sure they aren't cracked, then u know if they are telling the truth.

They sold the Chaparral just before I got there. hostage, checked the bellows & shift cable. They are new as advertised.
