when we look at just the one operating spot - the WOT , you are right. here the direct injected engine will have only a minor advance. but like you write its stunning what little % of the operating is really WOT, even when you believe to run your engine hard. so in real life a ficht will use noticeable less fuel than a same hp carbed engine on the same boat- be sure. the same is valid for oil consumption, but even much more significantly.

one next thing are the dramatically lower visble and invisible exhaust emmisions. no more getting it started on the dock and blow a nice blue cloud over the neighbours boats while they are on deck . and no restrictions of banning carbed two strokes.

of course the fuel and oil consumption will not equal the maintainance/repaircosts of such an ficht, and when money is strictly limited for this hobby, you tend not to troll for longer periods, do not run in enviromentally limited areas, and are able to fix the carbed engine mostly by DIY , then a carbed engine maybe the better option for you !

best regards !

I hope they do not start that stupid restrictions stuff near me anywhere..there is no reason for it. I boat in waters that see huge outboard traffic and has for many years with no measurable impact on the environment.
