Re: 2000 evinrude 150 ram help.......

rsbbpayne....Welcome to the post. Well all I can tell you is that I have this exact same motor, same year, same hp., and it is the best motor I have ever owned. It is very fuel efficient, very oil efficient, quiet, always starts right up, it is extremely responsive and rips my 19' Mako CC onto plane in a blink of an eye and gets me going about 60mph WOT, and has never given me a single problem. The only thing I had done to it was the injector bracket update and that was free from the dealer.
I know alot of people steer clear from the Ficht's and for good reason with the early years, but by this year Bombardier pretty much had everything worked out. I have about 300 hrs. on it and it is fine. Provided the engine has been maintained properly and not beat on, I think you should be alright. Check the compression and ask when the last time in had maintenance, i.e. waterpump, plugs, decarb etc... Good Luck.

You should be getting about 5500 rpm out of this motor.

You need to prop down that motor. It should be running at least 5500, you will have to go down at least 3 prop pitches, this will also give you a better hole shot for pulling up skiers. There is always arguments about the proper octane fuel to use, basically use what is reccommended by the manufacturer, personally I don't believe you need anything higher than 87 octane, especially in fuel injected motors, they usually use a lower compression ratio, therefore there is no need for high octane fuels.

Re: 2000 evinrude 150 ram help.......

I'm looking at a 2000 225 ram ficht with 300 hours on it. Searching info on it, I thought I read that Bombardier either didn't own evinrude yet or it was the first year and they didn't yet make any changes. Could you clarify? Also, I'm also looking at a 1998 200 hp with 150 hours on it. Should I stay clear? I don't want to get stuck with an expensive mistake. Thanks.

Paulgs,

Bombardier started production on the 2002 model engines. Earlier ones were made by OMC.

Have a QUALIFIED tech check out that 2000 model. Bombardier warranted the 2000 and the 2001 Johnsons and Evinrudes when they took over.
