Hi just wanted to say thank you to everyone here for all the help that I have read about. Now for my problem I have an 2000 Evinrude FICHT 175 model# E175FPLSSR it has 120hours on it. It is on a 84 Ranger 370. I have had the boat since Oct of 08 the motor has been great and this last two outings I have been having trouble. It starts great runs great (top end 5k-6k at 75mph on GPS) at WOT but when I slow down to 1k-2k rpm the motor will run fine for a little while then after 3-5mins it starts to run rough and sputters like it is starving for fuel I have checked the prime bulb and it is soft and won't get hard. But when I take it out of gear and rev the motor it goes away for a little while (3-5mins) and starts sputtering again. The other problem I have is there is no local shop that works on Evinrude's the nearest shop is 2 hours away that is my last resort. So any help would be GREAT. Just a side note I did take it the shop before I bought it and got a clean bill of health on the motor the only thing that was done is a fuel pump. Hope someone can help.

It sounds like you have one of the following:
(1) Bad primer bulb, USE BRP or MERCURY ONLY ,NO AFTERMARKET
(2) Loose clamp in fuel system causing it to suck air
(3) Bad lift pump(fuel) and needs rebuilt
Are you getting any check engine lights? Make sure you are running the XD50 oil.

Thanks for the feedback I have replaced the prime bulb and fuel lines and clamps. Now when you say lift pump do you mean fuel pump? as far as warning lights none have come on and for oil I am using quicksilver. Would you think that the plugs could be fouled and the motor needs to be decarbonize I am at a loss with this. The other thing that I have noticed is when I am warming up the motor in the morning I can just let it idle in neutral forever without any problems. I just don't know I am going to decarb tomorrow and change the plugs and see what happens wish me luck.

OK I found the problem it was the vapor separator it is dumping fuel in to the the throttle body via hose on top of the separator if I disconnect the hose it runs great but fuel continues to flow out of the hose. In the service book it says little to no fuel should be their. I have called to replace the separator and their talking $500.+ for a new one part only. Is their any reason why I could now just plug the hose. What does the separator do?

That hose is most likely a vent for the VST. This vent is what allows the VST (vapor separator tank) to bleed the air out of the fuel to ensure that no air gets into your fuel rail. If you plug this line, you will get air into fuel system causing a bunch of problems. The reason that your vent line is dumping fuel is most likely due to a stuck or improperly seating needle valve. this needle valve cuts off the flow of fuel from the tank so that the VST does not overflow. I'd investigate the needle valve or float in the VST to make sure that it is closing properly. Does your primer bulb ever get hard while priming with the engine off? the reason that a primer bulb gets hard is because the float has closed the needle valve. If it never gets hard and actually pumps fuel out of the vent line, your float or needle valve is definitely the culprit.
All of this is assuming that the top hose is the VST vent hose. sounds like it is...

Hey Sunbird yes it is a the vent hose that is putting fuel into the throttle body. Have you or anyone opened the vapor separator. As far as I can find out their is not a rebuild kit for this unit if anyone has opened this unit up let me know if it is something that can be cleaned out let me know. As far as the plug it was just a quick fix to get me by for a tournament. I was thinking what if I run the vent line back into the fuel tank would that work. Number one it would let the air vent and two it would let the fuel flow back in to the fuel system. I know this is a band aid but I just don't see why that that would not work let me know what you guys think pro's and con's of my idea.

Thanks
