I have a 2000 evinrude 50hp 4 stroke electronic fuel injected. I make a bad mistake today. I took my boat out and did not realize that I left the motor flushing ears on the intake of the motor. I started the motor and it was pumping water so when I went to accelerate I only had a 1/4 throttle and it starting revving up real high so I immediately brought it back down to idle. I tried this about 5-6 times with immediately going back to idle every time. I would say total run time was about 15 mins including the idling time. This was the first time I have taken this used boat out so I made a bad mistake. The check engine light activated but in the owners manual it clearly says if the motor overheated the hot light would activate and the hot light did not come on and it is working according to light test on start up. So I go back to dock and realize what I had done took the flush ears off and put the boat back in. The boat runs really well however the check engine light comes back on. So I immediately go back to dock load up and go home and hook it up to the ears and hose and run it no check engine light came on until 10 mins of idling time. So i disconnect the battery thinking it would reset the light. I run it again later on and 10mins of idling the check engine light comes back on. Again I hope I haven't done any damage to this engine. The hot light never came on so I dont know how I could have overheated it. There is 4 lights no oil, check engine, hot, low oil. Please I could really use some advice here I didn't run it long at all because I never got 100yds from the dock like I say I only tried to throttle up to take off 5 or 6 times I guess what was happening is it was cavitation trying to get through the small garden hose hole on the flush ears. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time and efforts.
