While running my motor at W.O.T the NO OIL warning light came on, shut down and checked oil and it was fine, restarted motor and spent the rest of the day with no warnings, any ideas on the warning light coming on, 2nd question is how to actually change the oil filter, there doesnt seem to be enough room to get the filter out and new one in past the cowling

Oil PRESSURE and LOW OIL are two distinctly different situations. Low oil is just that -- not enough oil in the engine. Low oil PRESSURE can be due to low oil/no oil, or a bad oil pump, worn rod, main, or cam bearings in the engine or a bad oil PRESSURE switch. So you need to first determine what indication you had. It obviously was NOT low oil since the dip stick showed that not to be the case.

I agree with that, but with main or rod bearings I would think it would do it all the time, this just did it once then ran fine the rest of the day, ordering the manual today

Re: 2000 evinrude 70hp 4 stroke 2 questions??????

Was told by a local marine mech here that it does NOT have a low oil, that they actually use the same indicator set up on the 2 strokes and then it does have a low oil warning, while we are on this subject, when I changed the oil on the left side of the motor level to the oil drain plug there is also a plastic plug, anyone know what that plug is for????? Cant wait to get my manual but curious to what it is for, looks like a water port for some reason

the LOW OIL light is only for the 2-stroke motors that use an external oil tank. There is no circuitry for that warning lite in the 4-stroke outboards.

It is a drain/flush port. Mine is so stuck in there that I cannot get it out without breaking it.

FYI, to remove the oil filter take the left schroud off, 3 or 4 screws and the pin in the cowl latch, and you must use the suzuki or evinrude brand or it is to long, I researched and checked all brands if someone finds a short one please let me know.
