2000 Evinrude 90 Ficht misfiring

Having a 90 Ficht problem which my service guys can't fix. All diagnostics on the computer show no fault, but above 3800rpm it runs badly. It misfires and will only rev to about 4200rpm. Normal max revs with this prop and hull 17" SST on 15ft fibreglass cathedral hull (1970's vintage) are 5000. Plugs have been replaced, engine serviced, but no clues to bad running. Has anyone struck this problem?

Take a timing light with you and check each cylinder when it acts up and see if flash becomes erratic.

Start with the basics Compression / fuel / spark. If you have the software you can run the boat at the problem rpm and drop each cylinder to find the problem.
