Hey guys,

I have a question for you. I have a 2000 Evinrude Ficht 75hp that has an intermitant knock to it at full throttle. It does not sound like a ping but more like a metal hitting metal sound. Any idea what that might be? I haven't pulled the plugs yet, but I know they were indexed. If they are not indexed properly could the piston be hitting the bottom of the plug? Also too I have been getting some cavitation burn on my prop. It is a hustler 13 3/4 X 15 pitch. I am thinking of upgrading to a stainless. Any recommendations? I currently get 5100 rpms at full throttle. Would the rpms drop with a stainless of the same size? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: 2000 Evinrude Ficht 75hp Knock

If you are able to exceed the top end of the operating range of your motor now, you should increase pitch on your next prop.

Stainless prop is more rigid so you get better efficiency. All other things being equal, you would experience better performance at the same RPM with the Steel Prop.

I have not had good luck with generic aluminum props. I think the OMC props are excellent and they have given me good service for many years. Your service manual should list the recommended props for your motor on the specifications page.

The knock that you are hearing and the propeller burn may very well be related.

Hey guys,

I think I found the culprit for the knock...I looked at my little adjustable steering torque fin by the prop and found a part of it was chipped out...looks as if the prop was flexing under load and hitting that fin...time for stainless...has that ever happened to anyone?

Thanks
