Hi,
I've got a 2000 200HP fitch that has an intermittent problem with the tilt/trim control from the binnacle only when trying to move down, up is fine. I'm 99.9% sure it's not the switch because I have disassembled the binnacle connection and tested the switch with an ohm meter. It checks out just fine. If I short the green lead to the red lead at the helm connector to the motor (separated from the binnacle switch), I can get a hesitation or sometimes even no movement, but if I hold the connection for a few seconds, the trim will go down. The switch on the motor housing works fine in both directions. I can short the green wire at the motor connection to B+ and the motor moves down. With the binnacle assembled, I sometimes get no movement at all and holding the switch for any length of time does not help. Yet if I wait a minute or 2 and try it again, it works!
It seems like the problem is in the wire from the binnacle connector out to the motor and has an intermittent connection somewhere between the helm to the motor. There doesn't appear to be any other connector between the helm and the connection on top of the motor that I can see. The 3 wire bundle is wrapped in tape and comes out of a larger wire near the motor wiring entrance, but there's no connector there, only the 3 wire connection on top of the motor. I've unwrapped the tape at the helm and checked the length of wire the best I could, but there's no obvious damage or break that I can see.
Has anyone ever seen this type of problem before? Any suggestions?
Thank you.
