I have a 2000 200 hp johnson ocean pro on a 24 hydra-sport cc. The proble that im haveing is that at idle it has what i think is a miss. When it does this "miss" the rpms drop causing it to stall sometimes. When i put it in gear at lower speeds like for trolling it runs fine for a while but then is misses or coughs and the rpms drop causing the motor to stall or act like it will. If it doesn't stall then it runs for a few more until it sputters again then it will cut off. The motor will run its butt off at higher speeds and everytime it cuts off it will start right back up.
this problem is a pain because i am wirelineing a bridge and am real close to pileings most of the time i am fishing.Any reply of thoughts of advice will be much appreciated.

Re: 2000 johnson 200 hp

Hi, Showtime.

Is it doing a "sneeze" when this happens? That would be a sign of running too lean on the idle circuit of one or more carbs.

Lots of carbs on that big V6, but I would overhaul all of them, with care that all orifices and jets get perfectly clean.

Then I would do a complete "tune up" of the carburetion system, finishing with the famous "link 'n' synch" adjustments. Do this exactly as described in the Service Manual. Don't overlook that some adjustments must be made with the engine in the water and under load.

That should put you back in smooth operation.

I just noticed that you doubled the post and already have an answer on the other one. I will close this one so people wont get confused (like I did :) )

Good luck. :)
