How do I find the value of this motor? Is there a guide somewhere?

I have a 2000 Johnson 40hp 2-stroke, electric start, OCM top mount controls, power tilt/trim, prop, oil tank, fuel line, and 6 gallon fuel tank. I do not know the specifics of the prop.

It has scrapes and scratches but is in good condition. No drips of any kind and is still winterized. It turns over but I have not yet started it, so let?s assume it runs fine. The meter on the boat says 70 hours and this is the original motor to the boat so I?m going with that.

NADA lists it for $700-$800 for just the motor although I know that book value and market value are never the same. I found these comps on ebay. There are similarities and differences between these and mine, but they?re close enough to judge what I should ask and what people will pay.

Give me your thoughts.

Thanks

If it doesn't run way less than running, to get top dollar ideally offer test drives. You can ask at the high end and take B/O

So what's mine worth? What should high-end be? $2000? $3000? $4000? What would any of you pay? What's reasonable for you?

Where are you, salt water? Crystal clear spring fed lakes you can bottom in 30' of water? 500-800 in first case, 1500-2000 in last case. I admit I got lucky with those two I sold but that's what they offered.

Put an actual pic up of your motor since most outboard boats don't come with hr meters I wouldn't trust that. Look on craigslist around you to see what comparable motors are going for. I am not kidding about a test drive that can add $500-750 on the price. People like it when they can run it, seeing it on muffs means nothing.

Actually Jake, it was on cotton candy clouds and the prop just pushed me along side the Unicorns and Pixies LOL LOL. Kidding aside it was all freshwater. I don't really have any pics right now since it's in the water but I'll get some next time I go there.
